Kylian Mbappé is facing growing backlash from sections of the Real Madrid fanbase after an online “Mbappé Out” petition gathered tens of millions of signatures during a difficult season for the Spanish club. Reports from sports outlets including FOX Sports said the petition was initially launched with a goal of 200,000 signatures before rapidly spreading across social media and surging far beyond that figure.

Some reports stated the petition surpassed 33 million signatures, while later figures claimed it approached 70 million as frustration mounted over Real Madrid’s performances in La Liga and the Champions League. Questions have also been raised online about the authenticity of many signatures due to the unusually rapid growth of the campaign.

The criticism comes less than two years after Mbappé’s high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid. Despite the backlash, club president Florentino Pérez and Madrid officials are reportedly still committed to the French forward as the team attempts to recover from a disappointing season.
