Artillery fire was reported near villages in Syria’s southwestern Daraa countryside on October 3, amid a series of Israeli military movements in the border region.
Shells Land Near Abidin and Maariya
Syrian state media said several shells landed on the outskirts of Abidin, in the Yarmouk Basin area, while reconnaissance aircraft flew overhead. A separate account put the number at four shells and said they were fired toward the fringes of both Abidin and nearby Maariya.
No casualties had been reported in the initial account of the shelling. The reports described fire near the villages, rather than confirming direct hits on homes or reporting damage.
Tensions Continue in Southern Syria
The shelling came during a period of Israeli incursions in the Daraa and Quneitra countryside. Residents in these rural communities live close to areas where Israeli forces have carried out patrols and other military activity since late 2024.
The October 3 incident adds to tensions over security and control in southern Syria. The immediate reports did not indicate whether the firing was followed by further action or whether any additional casualties or damage were later confirmed.
