Israeli military forces carried out an operation in southern Syria in early February 2026, targeting and dismantling a weapons depot near the village of Beit Jinn, close to the Golan Heights. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), troops located firearms, mines, and additional military equipment at the site, which Israel said was linked to al-Jama’a al-Islamiyya, a group it accuses of cooperating with Hezbollah and Hamas.
The IDF described the raid as a preventive measure aimed at disrupting potential threats along Israel’s northern border. The weapons were reportedly destroyed on site. There were no immediate reports of casualties, and Syrian authorities did not issue a detailed response at the time of reporting.
The operation took place inside Syrian territory, a point that has drawn scrutiny in past cross-border incidents. Syrian officials have previously characterized similar Israeli actions as violations of national sovereignty, while Israel maintains it acts to prevent the transfer or storage of weapons it views as hostile. Such operations continue to raise broader questions about regional security dynamics and the legal boundaries of preemptive strikes.
