Israeli Fire Kills Two in Lebanon as Hezbollah Condemns Truce Violation
Two people were killed and two others wounded in southern Lebanon after Israeli troops opened fire near the city of Nabatieh, according to Lebanese media. The incident ended two days of relative calm and raised concerns about the stability of a US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
Hezbollah described the attack as a “treacherous” and “blatant” violation of the truce, warning that it remains ready to respond to any Israeli breach. Israel said its forces targeted armed individuals who posed an immediate threat to soldiers operating in a designated security zone in southern Lebanon.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials reaffirmed that Israel will continue military operations against Hezbollah and maintain its security zone in southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, Lebanon and Israel have begun a new round of US-mediated talks in Washington aimed at preserving the ceasefire and addressing security concerns.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed hope that negotiations would lead to an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah insisted that discussions should focus on security arrangements and not on disarming the group.
