Israel Confirms Death of Palestinian Man 18 Months After Hospital Detention in West Bank

The family of Palestinian Majdi Nour Abu Ara says they were informed of his death 18 months after Israeli forces took him following a drone strike in the occupied West Bank.

According to the family's account, they were notified after the legal rights group HaMoked relayed an Israeli High Court decision confirming his death. Relatives said Israeli authorities had withheld information about his fate throughout that period.

The incident began on 3 December 2024, when an Israeli drone targeted a vehicle near Tubas. Two passengers, Muhammad Samih Ghanem and Karam Hatem Abu Ara, were killed in the strike. Another injured passenger, Ayman Najeh Ghanem, was later detained by Israeli special forces from a hospital in Nablus.

Majdi Abu Ara's whereabouts remained unknown until his family received official confirmation of his death, bringing an end to nearly a year and a half of uncertainty.
