Iraq Seizes 375kg of Gold in Expanding Anti-Corruption Crackdown
Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council has announced the recovery of 375 kilograms of gold as part of a major corruption investigation involving former Deputy Oil Minister Adnan Al Jumaili.
Authorities recovered 358kg of gold in cooperation with Kurdistan regional officials, while another 17kg was seized in a separate operation. The gold has been transferred to the Central Bank of Iraq as investigators continue tracing assets allegedly obtained through corruption.
The case is part of the government's nationwide anti-corruption campaign, known as Operation Dawn, launched after Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi took office. Officials say the investigation has already uncovered millions of dollars in cash, properties, vehicles and other valuables linked to suspected misuse of public funds.
The Iraqi government says it will continue pursuing corruption cases, including efforts to extradite suspects living abroad and recover stolen state assets.
