Araghchi challenges Europe's position
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized European governments' response to the regional conflict during diplomatic meetings in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Iran's Foreign Ministry said Araghchi met with the foreign ministers of France, the Netherlands and Austria, as well as counterparts from Iraq and Azerbaijan. The discussions covered bilateral relations, regional and international developments, tensions between Iran and the United States, and security in the Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi argued that European governments' stated support for human rights and the rule of law was inconsistent with backing, or remaining silent about, military action against Iran. He called on governments—particularly European states—to end support for Israel and take steps to prevent it from avoiding accountability.
Hormuz security dispute
Araghchi also rejected the idea that Iran was responsible for insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz. He attributed the disruption to US and Israeli actions and said restoring security in the waterway depended on Washington ending those actions.
These statements present Tehran's position on the conflict and the strategic waterway. The meetings covered bilateral ties and regional issues while tensions with Washington remained a central subject.
Claims about responsibility for the conflict and the causes of insecurity in the Strait are positions voiced by Iranian officials, rather than independent findings.
