Iran Strikes US Bases in Jordan and Gulf Amid Escalating Regional Conflict
Tensions between Iran and the United States have sharply escalated after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they carried out coordinated attacks on US military sites in Jordan and across multiple Gulf countries, including Kuwait and Bahrain. The strikes were described as retaliation for recent US military actions near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian media, the attacks targeted around 21 sites, including the US al-Azraq base in Jordan, where missiles were reportedly aimed at facilities housing F-35 jets and command centers. Jordan’s military said it intercepted several incoming missiles, with debris falling inside the country but causing no casualties.
Iran also claimed drone strikes on the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and operations near bases in Kuwait, while Gulf states reported activating air defenses and issuing public safety alerts.
The escalation followed US strikes on Iranian air defense and radar systems near the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington said were in response to earlier attacks on US forces. Iran warned it would deliver a “crushing response” to any further aggression.
US officials said most incoming missiles and drones were intercepted, and no significant damage or casualties were reported. Oil markets reacted with a slight rise amid growing regional instability.
The confrontation marks one of the most serious flare-ups since a fragile ceasefire earlier this year, raising concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route.
