Iran says US military forces killed at least five civilians after attacking passenger boats near Iranian waters on May 5.

Iranian officials said the boats were carrying civilian passengers, including women and children, when they came under fire during operations in the Gulf region. Several others were reportedly injured in the incident.

Tehran condemned the attacks as a violation of international law and accused Washington of escalating tensions in already volatile regional waters. Iranian state media said emergency crews were dispatched to recover victims and assist survivors following the attacks.

The US military had not immediately released a detailed public response to the allegations, though tensions between Washington and Tehran have intensified in recent weeks amid increased military activity around the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.

The incident comes as regional mediators continue diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing confrontation between Iran and the United States following a series of military and maritime incidents in the region.
