Iran Disputes US Oil Claims as New Hormuz Cable Rule Emerges
Iran has rejected US claims about the movement of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, disputing reports that American forces escorted large numbers of vessels carrying more than a billion barrels of oil.
The US has also claimed that thousands of commercial transits were protected and major shipping lanes were cleared of mines. Iran has challenged these claims as tensions remain high around the strategic waterway.
Separately, Iran has approved a new provision requiring official approval for undersea data cables and other communications equipment passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Further details of the new regulation are expected to follow.
