India and Canada have agreed to strengthen economic ties, with both countries aiming to increase bilateral trade to around $50 billion by 2030.

Officials from the two nations said discussions are underway to expand cooperation in key sectors including energy, technology, agriculture and critical minerals. The plan forms part of broader efforts to deepen economic partnerships and diversify trade relationships.

The initiative also includes renewed negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which could lower trade barriers and encourage greater investment between the two countries. Current bilateral trade between India and Canada remains significantly below the new target, but officials believe stronger cooperation in strategic industries could drive growth over the coming years.

Analysts say closer economic ties could benefit both economies while helping to stabilize diplomatic relations that have faced challenges in recent years. The proposed expansion reflects a wider push by both countries to strengthen international trade partnerships amid shifting global economic conditions.
