Hamas Warns Gaza Ceasefire Could Collapse, Blames Mediators for Failing to Restrain Israel
Hamas political bureau chief Khalil al-Hayya has warned that continued Israeli attacks in Gaza could undermine the ceasefire agreement, urging mediators and guarantors to take immediate action to prevent its collapse.
In a statement, al-Hayya condemned what he described as ongoing Israeli killings and escalating attacks that have intensified since Tuesday. He said the strikes demonstrate that Israel is disregarding mediation efforts and existing guarantees.
Al-Hayya specifically called on the mediators and guarantors to pressure Israel to halt its attacks and protect the ceasefire, warning that continued violations place them under a “major and decisive responsibility”.
The warning followed an Israeli air strike on a police station in central Gaza City that, according to Gaza’s Interior Ministry, killed eight Palestinian police officers and a displaced girl.
The attack came less than 24 hours after an Israeli drone strike on a crowded cafe at the Fishermen’s Port west of Gaza City. Gaza authorities said seven Palestinians, including a child, were killed and 14 others wounded.
Al-Hayya said the escalation could ultimately threaten the wider ceasefire arrangement and urged mediators to act before the situation deteriorates further.
