A mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana has left eight children dead and several others injured in what police described as a domestic-related incident, according to US authorities.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, is believed to have killed seven of his own children along with another child during the early morning attack. Two women were also critically injured.
The violence unfolded across multiple locations in the Cedar Grove neighbourhood, with police responding to reports of gunfire before the suspect fled the scene. He later carried out a carjacking and was shot dead by police following a pursuit.
Authorities said the incident appears to be domestic in nature, though a full investigation is ongoing. The victims ranged in age from young children to early teens, making it one of the deadliest incidents involving minors in the US this year. Local officials described the tragedy as one of the worst in the city’s history, with calls for support for the victims’ families and renewed concern over gun violence.
