Ukrainian soldiers fighting on the front lines are facing worsening food shortages and harsh living conditions as intensified fighting and constant drone surveillance make traditional supply missions increasingly dangerous. Soldiers interviewed in a report published on May 12 described long periods with limited access to meals, water and basic supplies while stationed in isolated combat positions.

Troops said resupply vehicles are frequently targeted by artillery, drones and air attacks, forcing some units to survive on reduced rations while waiting for supplies to arrive. Several soldiers described exhaustion, deteriorating morale and fears that front-line positions could become cut off entirely during heavy fighting.

To reduce risks, Ukrainian forces have increasingly turned to drones to transport small amounts of food, batteries, ammunition and medicine to isolated troops. Soldiers said the unmanned deliveries can help temporarily, but they are often limited and unable to fully replace larger supply operations.

Military analysts say the growing dependence on drones highlights the severe logistical pressures facing Ukrainian forces as the war continues. Despite technological adaptations, many front-line troops remain exposed to difficult conditions, shortages and prolonged periods without reliable support.
