The Sudanese city of El Obeid is facing a growing humanitarian crisis as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) tighten pressure around the strategic city, raising fears it could become another El Fasher.

Around 500,000 people, including more than 100,000 displaced civilians, are reportedly trapped in El Obeid as drone attacks damage infrastructure, disrupt electricity and water supplies, and limit hospital operations.

The United Nations has warned of a possible humanitarian catastrophe, while international groups have raised concerns over reports of civilian killings and ethnically targeted violence.

The crisis follows the RSF’s takeover of El Fasher last year, where rights groups documented widespread atrocities. Analysts warn that losing El Obeid could give the RSF control over key supply routes linking Darfur, Kordofan, and central Sudan.

Sudan’s war began in April 2023 and has caused one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with millions displaced and tens of thousands killed.
