Egypt Sinai Bus Crash Kills 22 and Injures 28, Including Jordanian Nationals
A passenger bus overturned on a desert highway in Egypt’s South Sinai Peninsula, killing 22 people and injuring 28 others, Egyptian authorities said.
The crash occurred on the road linking the Red Sea resort towns of Dahab and Nuweiba, a popular tourist region known for its beaches, coral reefs and mountainous landscape.
According to Jordan’s state-run Al-Mamlaka television, 10 Jordanians were among those killed. The bus was reportedly carrying 43 passengers, including 22 Jordanian nationals.
Egypt’s Health Ministry said 20 ambulances were sent to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
Images from the scene showed the bus overturned with wreckage scattered along the roadside.
Road accidents are common in Egypt and are frequently linked to reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance and inconsistent enforcement of traffic laws. Nearly 6,000 people died in road accidents across Egypt last year, according to official statistics.
