El Obeid Crisis Could Be Worse Than El Fasher, Warns Former UN Official
Former UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan, Dr. Mukesh Kapila, has warned that the unfolding crisis in El Obeid could become even more severe than the violence seen in El Fasher during 2024–2025.
He cautioned that escalating conditions in the city risk a major humanitarian disaster if international attention fades. Kapila stressed that sustained global media focus and continued reporting could play a role in deterring further abuses by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
His remarks highlight growing concern that Sudan’s conflict may be spreading to new regions, with El Obeid potentially becoming the next major hotspot.
