Conflicting Reports Emerge on Whether Iran Deal Covers Lebanon

Conflicting reports have emerged over whether the US-Iran agreement includes a ceasefire in Lebanon.

While some reports, including the BBC, say the deal does not cover Lebanon, a senior US official quoted by The Times of Israel said the memorandum of understanding still envisions a broader ceasefire that could include Lebanon alongside Iran.

The official said the agreement is not dependent on Israel withdrawing from Lebanon. However, it would not function as a one-sided ceasefire, adding that Israel would retain the right to respond if Iran could not restrain Hezbollah and attacks were launched against Israeli targets.

The official also pointed to ongoing talks between Israel and Lebanon, suggesting that a wider peace process involving proxy groups could eventually support normalization efforts in the region.
