Chinese robotics company Unitree Robotics is expanding the global reach of its low-cost humanoid robot, the Unitree R1, as demand for affordable robotics grows.

The robot, launched in China with a starting price of around $4,900, is significantly cheaper than most humanoid robots, which typically cost tens of thousands of dollars. Reports indicate the R1 may be made available internationally through online platforms such as AliExpress, targeting markets including the United States, Europe, Japan, and Singapore.

Standing approximately 1.2 metres tall and weighing around 25–27 kilograms, the robot features 26 joints, allowing flexible movement. It also includes onboard computing capabilities supporting voice interaction and image recognition, positioning it for both consumer and commercial use.

Tech analysts say the lower price point could help accelerate adoption of humanoid robots beyond industrial settings, potentially opening the market to smaller businesses and individual users. However, the company has not yet confirmed a timeline for full international availability.
