British Museum Faces Scrutiny Over Claims About Removing ‘Palestine’ From Exhibition Displays

A new investigation has alleged that the British Museum removed references to "Palestine", "Palestinian" and "Israelite occupation" from its displays following lobbying by pro-Israel groups and individuals in late 2024.

The museum had previously stated that changes were based on audience testing which suggested the term "Palestine" was no longer meaningful to visitors. However, documents released through a Freedom of Information request reportedly show that no such audience testing or visitor research was conducted.

According to the investigation, internal records indicate the display changes were made after months of private and public complaints from organisations and prominent individuals supportive of Israel between October and December 2024.

The findings have raised fresh questions over the museum's explanation for the changes and the transparency of its decision-making process.
