Australia and Japan have signed contracts to begin a multi-billion-dollar warship deal, marking a significant step in strengthening defence ties between the two countries. The agreement, valued at around $7 billion, includes the construction of advanced frigates designed to enhance Australia’s naval capabilities.

Under the deal, the first vessels will be built in Japan, with additional ships to be constructed in Australia as part of efforts to boost local industry and defence capacity. Officials from both countries said the partnership reflects growing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region amid rising security concerns.

The deal is seen as part of a broader shift toward closer military collaboration between allies, particularly in response to evolving regional threats. Analysts say the agreement highlights the strategic importance of defence partnerships as countries seek to strengthen maritime security and maintain regional stability.
