Iran signals readiness for conflict and talks

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran was prepared for a resumption of war, while also leaving the door open to diplomacy. He made the remarks in a television interview as questions mounted over the prospect of renewed US military action.

Araghchi said Tehran would stand against further aggression but argued that President Donald Trump could choose a diplomatic path. He said Iran was still pursuing negotiations because opportunities for peace should not be wasted.

As part of a possible agreement, Iran is prepared to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi said. In return, he said, Tehran wants access to frozen assets and the ability to sell its oil. He also said a public US rejection of Iran’s proposal had not yet been formally conveyed through mediators.
