At least nine people, including eight students and one teacher, were killed and 13 others injured in a school shooting in Türkiye’s southern Kahramanmaraş province on April 15, authorities said.
Officials identified the attacker as a middle school student, believed to be around 13–14 years old, who also died during the incident. The student reportedly brought multiple firearms—up to five guns and several magazines—into the school and opened fire in two classrooms.
Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftci said six of the injured remain in intensive care, with several in critical condition.
Authorities are investigating how the suspect obtained the weapons, with early reports suggesting they may have belonged to his father, a former police officer who has been detained.
The attack came just one day after a separate school shooting in nearby Şanlıurfa province left 16 people wounded, raising alarm over a rare surge in school violence in the country. Officials said there is no indication of terrorism, and the motive remains unclear.
