A British Royal Navy destroyer has departed the UK for the eastern Mediterranean as tensions continue to rise during the conflict involving Iran.

HMS Dragon, a Type 45 air-defence destroyer with a crew of around 200 sailors, left Portsmouth naval base and is heading toward Cyprus, where the United Kingdom operates key military facilities.

British officials said the deployment is intended to help protect UK personnel and assets in the region, including RAF Akrotiri, a major British air base on the island. The move comes as the conflict in the Middle East has raised concerns about potential threats to military bases and international shipping routes.

Type 45 destroyers such as HMS Dragon are equipped with advanced radar and missile defence systems designed to track and intercept aerial threats, including drones and missiles. The deployment reflects growing security measures taken by several countries as the regional conflict continues to escalate.
