A Turkish-owned cargo ship was struck by a drone attack in the Black Sea, leaving two Turkish crew members injured, according to Turkish authorities and shipping officials.

The vessel was reportedly targeted while operating near the Ukrainian port region during ongoing tensions linked to the Russia-Ukraine war. Officials said the injured crew members received medical treatment and their condition was not considered life-threatening.

Authorities stated that the ship sustained damage from the attack, though it remained afloat. Initial reports indicated the vessel had been transporting grain cargo at the time of the incident. Turkish officials said efforts were underway to ensure the safety of the remaining crew and assess the extent of the damage.

The attack highlights continuing security risks facing commercial shipping in the Black Sea, where military activity and drone strikes have intensified since the outbreak of the war. Merchant vessels operating in the region have repeatedly faced disruptions, threats and damage linked to the conflict.

Türkiye has played a key diplomatic role during the war, previously helping broker agreements aimed at protecting grain shipments and maritime trade routes across the Black Sea.
