Trump Says Turkey Was Poised to Join War Alongside Iran
US President Donald Trump has claimed that Turkey was close to entering the conflict on Iran's side, citing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's opposition to Israel.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said he personally urged Erdogan to remain out of the conflict and claimed the Turkish leader agreed to do so.
Trump also said he would likely respond positively to Turkey's request to acquire F-35 fighter jets and jet engines needed for its domestically developed combat aircraft.
He further confirmed that he plans to attend the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, saying he would do so out of respect for President Erdogan.
