Syrian authorities announced in early February 2026 that security forces seized approximately 2.05 million Captagon pills during an anti-smuggling operation targeting a trafficking network operating near the country’s southern border. According to Syria’s Interior Ministry, the operation also uncovered around 151 kilograms of hashish and equipment allegedly used to transport narcotics across borders.
Officials said the seizure included 75 hot-air balloons, helium cylinders, a drone, plastic mortar shells, and a device described as a launcher capable of propelling drug-filled projectiles toward neighboring territory. Four suspects were reportedly arrested in connection with the operation.
Captagon, an amphetamine-type stimulant, has been at the center of regional anti-narcotics efforts, particularly along routes leading toward Jordan and other neighboring states. Syrian authorities stated the dismantled network was preparing shipments intended for cross-border smuggling.
The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by regional governments to curb trafficking networks that have expanded during years of instability and conflict in parts of Syria.
