Saudi Arabia has announced a $150 million fuel support package for Yemen aimed at helping power stations continue operating and improving electricity supplies in several governorates. The assistance will be delivered through the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) under directives from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Saudi officials said the fuel supplies are intended to stabilize Yemen’s electricity grid and support essential public services.
According to the program, the aid will help power plants maintain operations, reducing pressure on communities that have faced frequent electricity shortages. Saudi authorities said the initiative is also designed to ease humanitarian suffering while supporting economic and development activity across the country. The Kingdom has provided extensive assistance to Yemen in recent years through humanitarian, infrastructure, healthcare, education and energy projects. Officials described the latest package as part of ongoing efforts to support stability and improve living conditions for Yemenis.
Saudi Arabia has also been a major participant in Yemen’s conflict since 2015, leading a coalition backing the internationally recognized government against Houthi forces. While critics say the intervention contributed to the country’s humanitarian crisis, the Kingdom has simultaneously remained one of Yemen’s largest aid donors. The announcement comes as Yemen continues to face major economic and humanitarian challenges, with reliable electricity remaining a key concern in many areas of the country.
