Russia, Ukraine Exchange Heavy Attacks as Putin Warns of Stronger Retaliation

Russia and Ukraine exchanged heavy drone and missile attacks on Saturday, leaving at least 17 people dead on both sides, according to officials.

Russian strikes killed at least seven people in Ukraine, while Ukrainian attacks killed at least 10 people in Russia and Russian-occupied areas. The attacks targeted infrastructure and economic sites far from the front lines.

In Russia’s Samara region, a Ukrainian strike hit an oil refinery and damaged an Ozon logistics facility. Other casualties were reported in Krasnodar, Belgorod, Crimea and Russian-controlled Luhansk.

In Ukraine, Russian attacks struck Kyiv, Zaporizhia and the Dnipropetrovsk region. A missile strike damaged railway infrastructure in Kyiv, while the death toll from Friday’s attack on a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih rose to 16, with more than 130 people injured, including 22 children.

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Moscow would respond to attacks on Russian economic infrastructure with what he described as “far more painful and far more destructive” strikes.

The escalating attacks have intensified concerns over civilian casualties as the war approaches its fourth-and-a-half-year mark.

France announced plans to accelerate military equipment and missile deliveries to Ukraine, while Germany pledged an additional $58 million in humanitarian aid and further support for Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
