Nearly 2 billion Muslims worldwide have begun observing Ramadan 2026 after the crescent moon was sighted, marking the start of the Islamic holy month. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed by fasting from dawn until sunset. During this period, Muslims abstain from food and drink during daylight hours and devote additional time to prayer, reflection and charity.

Mosques across multiple countries confirmed the start of the month following local moon sightings. The fasting period will last 29 or 30 days, depending on the lunar cycle, before concluding with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. Ramadan is considered one of the most significant periods in Islam and is observed annually by Muslim communities across the globe.
