Pakistan’s military says at least 274 militants have been killed and more than 400 injured in a large-scale operation along the Afghanistan border, as cross-border tensions continue to intensify.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was launched following a series of militant attacks inside Pakistan. Islamabad says the strikes targeted fighters from Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an armed group distinct from Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities, although the two share ideological roots. Pakistani officials have long accused the TTP of carrying out attacks from bases inside Afghan territory — a claim Kabul denies.

Officials stated that air and ground strikes were conducted against what they described as militant hideouts and logistical positions. The military also reported casualties among its own forces, saying several soldiers were killed and wounded during the clashes.

Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government has rejected Pakistan’s account of events, disputing casualty figures and condemning the strikes as violations of Afghan sovereignty. Independent verification of the reported death toll remains difficult due to limited access to the affected border regions.

The developments come amid renewed instability along the long-disputed frontier between the two countries, with both sides trading accusations over cross-border violence.
