Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has said he can guarantee Hezbollah’s full commitment to a ceasefire if Israel ends its military operations in Lebanon.
Speaking to Beirut-based newspaper Al-Modon, Berri stated that Hezbollah would adhere to a ceasefire agreement provided Israel halts its land, sea and air attacks, as well as the demolition of homes and destruction of land in Lebanese territory.
Berri said he was willing to take responsibility for ensuring Hezbollah’s compliance but stressed that any agreement depended on Israel stopping the war. He also voiced skepticism about Israel’s willingness to honor future commitments, describing implementation as the key challenge.
According to Berri, a ceasefire could pave the way for indirect negotiations backed by regional and international partners. He suggested that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt and France could play important roles in sponsoring and guaranteeing any future talks.
He emphasized that ending the conflict remains the immediate priority, while other political and security issues can be addressed later through Lebanese dialogue supported by Arab mediators.
