A Kenyan Member of Parliament was among six people killed after a military helicopter crashed in western Kenya, authorities confirmed.

The aircraft went down shortly after takeoff in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, according to the Kenyan military. Officials said those on board included senior security personnel and local leaders attending an official function in the region.

Emergency teams were deployed to the crash site, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident. Initial reports did not immediately indicate whether mechanical failure or weather conditions played a role.

Kenyan President William Ruto expressed condolences to the families of the victims, describing the crash as a national tragedy. The defence ministry said further details would be released following a formal inquiry. The incident marks one of the most significant aviation losses involving Kenyan security forces in recent years.
