Israeli forces shelled the outskirts of a village in Syria’s Daraa province and later fired toward residential areas during a separate ground incursion in neighbouring Quneitra, according to reports published on October 4.
Shelling Near Abidin
Artillery struck the outskirts of Abidin in western Daraa, within the Yarmouk Basin. Initial accounts reported no casualties or damage from the shelling. The village has faced repeated artillery fire in recent weeks.
In a separate incident, Israeli troops entered an area west of Sayda al-Hanout village in Quneitra province with two tanks and other military vehicles. They opened fire toward nearby residential neighbourhoods, reports said. The two incidents took place in different parts of southern Syria and should not be conflated.
Tensions Along the Southern Border
Israeli forces have maintained a presence and carried out incursions in parts of southern Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in late 2024. Damascus has repeatedly objected to the military activity, while the immediate accounts of the October 4 incidents did not provide details about injuries or property damage resulting from the gunfire near Sayda al-Hanout.
The latest events add to uncertainty for residents near the border, where artillery fire and armed patrols have become recurring sources of concern.
