Israeli Forces Open Fire on Civilians in Southern Syria During Withdrawal From Daraa Village
Israeli forces reportedly opened fire on civilians while withdrawing from the village of Abidin in southern Syria, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.
SANA said troops fired toward residents in the western countryside of Daraa Governorate on Sunday evening. No injuries were immediately reported, and Syrian authorities had not issued an official statement.
Earlier in the day, Israeli forces established positions on Tal al-Maghar and in the Yarmouk Basin near Abidin. Syrian media also reported that troops fired live ammunition and illumination flares near El-Tallah after four armoured personnel carriers moved into the area.
The incident follows months of increased Israeli military activity in southern Syria, including reported raids, checkpoints, searches and detentions. Israel expanded its presence in the UN-monitored buffer zone after declaring the 1974 Disengagement Agreement had collapsed following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024.
