Israeli and Egyptian Officials Hold Gaza Talks During Cairo Military Meeting
Senior Israeli and Egyptian military officials met in Cairo this week for talks focused on Gaza, regional security and future plans for the Palestinian territory.
According to Israeli media reports, the discussions covered security coordination, Egypt’s role as a mediator with Hamas and efforts to shape Gaza’s postwar administration. The officials also reportedly watched Egypt’s World Cup match against Argentina together during the visit.
The meeting comes as tensions remain between Israel and Egypt over the Gaza war, while Cairo continues to push for a role in negotiations and humanitarian efforts.
Hamas also announced the dissolution of its emergency government committee in Gaza, saying the move would help transfer administrative responsibilities to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a body of Palestinian technocrats supported by international mediators.
The NCAG remains outside Gaza and has not yet taken control of the territory. Meanwhile, Palestinian officials say Israeli attacks since the ceasefire began have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians, with the overall death toll from the conflict exceeding 73,000.
