Israel Receives Sixth Dolphin-Class Drakon Submarine From Germany
Israel has announced that its latest submarine, the Drakon, has begun its voyage from Germany to Israel, marking the completion of years of joint planning and construction between the two countries.
The Israeli Defence Ministry and military said the Drakon is the sixth submarine delivered to the Israeli Navy. Senior Israeli and German defence officials attended a ceremony at the TKMS shipyard in Kiel marking the start of its journey.
The Drakon is the third and final submarine in the Dolphin-class air-independent propulsion (AIP) series acquired under Israel’s defence agreement with Germany.
According to Israel, the submarine incorporates advanced technologies designed to improve the navy’s operational flexibility and strengthen its capabilities for years to come.
Israeli Navy Commander Eyal Harel said the submarine would provide greater operational range, longer mission endurance and increased military capabilities.
He added that trained Israeli crews would operate the submarine in secrecy and at considerable distances from Israel, highlighting its role in the country’s long-range naval operations.
The delivery further deepens Germany’s long-standing military cooperation with Israel and adds another advanced submarine to Israel’s strategic naval fleet.
