A new international aid flotilla is preparing to sail toward Gaza, aiming to challenge Israel’s long-standing naval blockade and deliver humanitarian supplies to the territory. The mission, known as the Global Sumud Flotilla, is expected to include dozens of vessels and thousands of participants, carrying food, medical aid, and other essential supplies.

Organizers say the initiative is both humanitarian and symbolic, intended to draw attention to conditions in Gaza, where access to aid remains heavily restricted. The flotilla is scheduled to depart from European ports, including Barcelona, though timing may depend on weather conditions.

Previous flotilla attempts have been intercepted by Israeli forces, with authorities arguing the blockade is necessary for security and offering to transfer aid through official channels instead. Activists, however, maintain that direct delivery is needed to highlight the humanitarian crisis.

The latest effort follows earlier missions in 2025 that saw dozens of boats stopped and hundreds of participants detained, underscoring the risks involved in attempting to reach Gaza by sea.
