Iranian authorities say at least 550 people have been killed in just two days since the start of the large-scale U.S.–Israeli military campaign, marking one of the deadliest phases of confrontation in recent years.

Officials said the casualties include both civilians and military personnel, with hundreds more injured as strikes continue across multiple cities. Iranian state media and local health authorities have reported damage not only to military-linked facilities but also to areas near schools and hospitals, raising growing concerns about the impact on civilian infrastructure.

The evacuation of patients from medical centres, including facilities in Tehran, has intensified scrutiny over the protection of healthcare sites under international humanitarian law. Iran has accused its adversaries of targeting or striking areas in close proximity to non-military locations.

As airstrikes and missile exchanges persist, humanitarian organisations warn that continued fighting in populated areas could drive the death toll significantly higher in the coming days.
