Bolivia Issues Arrest Warrant for Former President Evo Morales Over Alleged Uprising

A Bolivian court has issued a new arrest warrant for former President Evo Morales as prosecutors investigate allegations including armed uprising, terrorism and attacks on state security.

The investigation follows protests backed by Morales against Bolivia’s economic crisis, rising living costs and the government’s austerity measures. Morales rejected the accusations, saying the case is politically motivated and intended to distract from the country's economic and social challenges.

Morales, Bolivia’s first Indigenous president, governed from 2006 to 2019 before resigning during a political crisis following disputed elections. He later spent time in exile before returning to Bolivia after the election of his ally, former President Luis Arce.
