Algeria Severs Diplomatic Relations With UAE
Algeria has severed diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, accusing Abu Dhabi of repeated “provocative or hostile” actions despite what Algiers described as numerous warnings. The decision marks a major deterioration in relations between the two countries.
Relations Deteriorate
The move follows months of growing tensions and accusations by Algerian officials that the UAE has interfered in Algeria’s internal affairs and pursued policies viewed by Algiers as destabilising.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has previously criticised what he described as Emirati interference and warned that Algeria could reconsider its relationship with Abu Dhabi.
UAE Faces Diplomatic Fallout
The UAE has defended its approach to diplomacy. Emirati diplomatic adviser Anwar Gargash previously argued that disputes between states should be handled through clear communication and the management of shared interests rather than public confrontation.
The diplomatic break adds another serious rift to relations between Arab states and could have wider implications for regional alliances and competition. Algeria and the UAE have historically maintained formal diplomatic ties since 1973.
