11 Syrian Soldiers Killed in Explosion at Army Site in Deir ez-Zor

Eleven Syrian soldiers were killed in an explosion at an army site in the Ayyash area west of Deir ez-Zor, Syrian authorities said on Saturday.

The blast occurred on Friday at a Syrian army position. Emergency teams and ambulances were sent to the site after the explosion, but authorities initially did not provide a casualty figure.

The cause and circumstances of the explosion remain unclear, and an investigation has been launched to determine what caused the blast.

A funeral procession for the 11 soldiers was held at the National Hospital in Deir ez-Zor city, with military personnel, relatives and fellow soldiers attending.

The explosion comes amid several recent incidents involving weapons and ammunition sites in Syria. Earlier this month, a blast at an arms depot near Sarmada in Idlib killed 14 people, while another ammunition-related explosion in Idlib previously killed at least five people.
