Syrian authorities organized a graduation ceremony in Aleppo on February 2, 2026, to honor 250 soldiers from the Syrian Army who successfully memorized the entire Quran, earning the title of Hafiz. The event, attended by military officials and religious scholars, highlighted the intersection of faith and national service amid the country's ongoing stabilization efforts post-conflict.

Participants underwent rigorous three-year programs combining military duties with Quranic studies. The initiative, launched by the Syrian Ministry of Defense in coordination with the Awqaf (religious endowments), aims to foster spiritual resilience among troops. Aleppo Governor Hussein al-Dairi praised the graduates as "models of piety and patriotism," noting similar programs now expanding to Damascus and Homs. Families and locals filled the venue, with recitations showcasing flawless Hifz (memorization) of all 114 surahs.

This reflects growing religious freedom across Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, as Islamic studies programs expand without former restrictions—allowing soldiers and civilians alike to openly pursue Quranic education after years of suppressed faith practices.
