Celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory descended into violence across France, leading to nearly 900 arrests, hundreds of injuries and at least one death, authorities said.

The unrest broke out after PSG secured its second consecutive Champions League title, prompting large gatherings of supporters in Paris and other cities. While many fans celebrated peacefully, authorities reported widespread disturbances including clashes with police, looting and vehicles being set on fire.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said more than 890 people were arrested during the incidents, a significant increase compared with last year. Nearly 180 law enforcement officers were injured while responding to the disorder.

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the PSG squad to the Elysee Palace following the victory, praising the club’s achievement while strongly condemning the violence that accompanied the celebrations. He described the scenes as unacceptable and said those responsible should face consequences.

Authorities also confirmed that one man died while riding a motorcycle during celebrations around Paris. Additional incidents, including stabbings and other attacks, were reported as security forces worked to restore order. The violence overshadowed what was expected to be a historic and joyous occasion for PSG supporters and French football.
