Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has accused the United States of interfering in Mexico’s internal affairs after US authorities moved to pursue the arrest and extradition of 10 current and former Mexican officials.
The officials are being sought over allegations of links to drug trafficking networks, a development that has escalated tensions between the two countries. The Mexican government has pushed back strongly, framing the US action as overreach into domestic governance and judicial sovereignty.
Sheinbaum’s criticism reflects growing friction over cross-border security cooperation, particularly as Washington intensifies efforts to target corruption and organised crime tied to drug cartels. Mexico, meanwhile, argues that such moves risk undermining mutual trust and violate principles of non-intervention.
