A massive fire destroyed about 200 homes in Sabah, Malaysia, leaving hundreds of residents homeless, authorities said on Sunday.
The blaze broke out in a densely populated settlement in the state capital Kota Kinabalu, rapidly spreading due to closely built wooden houses and strong winds, according to local fire officials.
Firefighters took several hours to bring the flames under control, with no immediate reports of fatalities. However, several people were treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation.
Officials said more than 1,000 residents were affected, with many forced to flee their homes with little time to gather belongings. Temporary shelters have been set up to house displaced families. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, though early reports suggest it may have started in a residential unit before quickly spreading.
