A U.S. military watchdog group says it has received complaints from service members alleging that some commanders framed the conflict with Iran as part of “God’s plan.”

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) said it received more than 200 complaints from troops who claimed that religious language was used during briefings related to the war. According to the organization, some service members reported being told that the conflict was linked to biblical prophecy.

One complaint cited statements allegedly made by a commander suggesting that former U.S. President Donald Trump had been chosen by God to lead the conflict. The claims have not been independently confirmed by the U.S. military.

Trump has also been seen in a widely circulated video being prayed over by evangelical pastors during a gathering related to the conflict. The MRFF said it has asked the Pentagon to investigate whether the remarks violated rules that require the military to remain religiously neutral. U.S. defense officials have not publicly confirmed the allegations, and it remains unclear how widespread the reported comments may have been.
